Extended Care Rate: What It Is and How It Works
The Extended Care rate is an automatic rate that applies to house sitting and dog boarding stays when the pick-up time is significantly later than the drop-off time. This ensures sitters are fairly compensated for additional time and responsibility.
Both the sitter and the client can view the Extended Care charge in the booking details. Clients can also see how Extended Care works when reviewing pricing and rates.
How it works
Clients select a drop-off and pick-up time range when requesting a booking. Extended Care applies per pet if the scheduled pick-up time on the final day is more than 2 hours later than the drop-off time on the first day of the stay.
The amount depends on how much additional time is requested beyond the original 24-hour period.
| Extra time past the 24-hour window | Extended Care charge |
|---|---|
| More than 2 hours and up to 8 additional hours | 50% of the sitter’s nightly rate |
| More than 8 additional hours | 100% of the sitter’s nightly rate |
Why Extended Care exists
- It protects sitters’ time: Late pickups can prevent other bookings or personal commitments.
- It sets clear expectations: Pricing is transparent before the booking is finalized.
- It reduces disputes: Everyone can see the policy and totals upfront.
Can Extended Care be removed or waived?
Extended Care rates can’t be disabled as a feature. However, sitters can still adjust a booking total by modifying the price of the booking when appropriate (for example, if both sides agree to a different plan).
If you need to change timing or pricing, the best practice is simple: communicate early, update the booking details, and confirm both sides agree before the stay ends.
